Ta Da......The "New" Kitchen

First I need to say that it is very, very hard to get good pictures of my home. I think I need a wide angle lense or a better camera--or some camera knowledge. That being said.....here it is....the long-awaited kitchen makeover! I swear it is much better in person. Honestly!

I also added moulding to the top of the cabinets to give them a little height and interest. I swear it makes my popcorn ceiling look higher.

And here's the biggie. My newly painted and sealed counters! Again, they look so much better in person. See how shiny they are!? LOVE 'em! Like Jack said, "Now they wook wike Twacy's and they feew wike Twacy's too!" (Tracy's are granite.) You, too can have fake-granite over your laminate because I am going to show you how to do it. But not until Saturday. ;-)

The grand total for this re-do: under $180.00 No joking! I will break it down for ya':
wall paint: $25.00
cabinet paint: $27.00
hinges: $16.00
moulding: $21.00
counter sealer: $68.00
valance & rings: $15.00
total: $172.00

I will be getting a new faucet, stainless over-the-range microwave and a stainless dishwasher in the near future and other stainless when and if the economy ever gets better. I also need to finish painting my table and chairs black. (They are almost done.) I also plan on adding some punches of color here and there, but haven't figured that out just yet. Overall, I LOVE what I've done and I would highly recommend going for it if you've ever thought about doing a makeover! I had been unhappy with my kitchen for a long time and then I saw what Emily from Chatting at the Sky had done and I was sold. Then she went and did it again at her new house! I don't mind saying that I completely took many of her ideas and put them in my house. I was also inspired by Emily's sister, Nester, whose motto: "It doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful." was my mantra as I was pouring a gallon of goo on my counters and hoping not to saw a finger off when I was mitering moulding. Thanks girls for giving me just the kick in the pants that I needed!

Emily's inspiring kitchen.

Whoo hoo I get to be the first to comment. It is fab, I cant wait to see it in person. Maybe your pics will convince Eric to let me try the counters.

I like my cabinets and so I wouldnt touch them, but I would get a new sink, new faucet and the countertops! Oh I hope, hope he will let me and my MIL attempt it... fingers crossed.

It is so easy to watch do it yourself programs on TV and think it would be easy to try what you have just seen! NEVER have I known anyone who actually has tried this much and to be this SUCCESSFUL at it! Your new kitchen is picture perfect and I can't wait to see it in person! It is beautiful...can't wait to start on mine. I need to paint the walls, countertops, and cabintets also! You have totally inspired me. Look out Aaron....

This is so great! I found your site from the Nester files and I'm so glad I did. I too have been researching painting my countertops on Thrifty Fun but I haven't had the time or convinced my husband yet!! Maybe after he sees your pics, he will change his mind. Emily's room is my inspiration room as well! You did a great job! Thanks for your tutorial!!!

Love the transformation! It looks great. I would have never thought about painting my counter tops to mimic granite but it came out great! Love your back splash too, so full of character!

Your kitchen cabinets are just like mine - in the before picture. :) I'm trying to get my husband to let me paint them black. Thank you for sharing. You did an amazing job. I love your countertop too. I wonder if you could use scrapbook paper and decoupage a design instead of painting them? I'm trying to figure out a cheap countertop solution too, and I love your idea. Thank you!

I know that you want stainless, but have you seen the stainless steel contact paper? It is more expensive than normal contact paper and it is a lot like stainless steel. I saw a home improvement show on HGTV where the unscrewed the face of the diswasher, took out hte front plate and covered it withthe stanless steel "paper" and replaced it, it was amazing. It looked like an $900 appliance for only 30 or so bucks. You should look into it.

Very nice! I'm not sure I have that patience but I also don't have the money to completely redo w/ new! I may have to try this on my old outdated bathroom countertop. Its small anyways, but so outdated!

Thank you!

Hey your kitchen looks great! How is the counter top holding up? I just saw epoxy stuff like that at home depot and it says it can be used for ceramic, I'm wondering if I could use it on tile counter top.

did you have to get new countertops? Im new to this DIY stuff and really want to do something with my countertops but dont have the money to buy new ones...any suggestions?

Amber....just in case you happen to read this. If you keep reading my blog, you can see how I re-did my existing counters at a very low cost. It's been nearly three years since I did them and they still look fabulous! I have had no problems with them at all. Go for it!!!

You can buy liquid stainless steel and paint your other appliances to match your stove! It's called Thomas' Liquid Stainless Steel and it's not expensive!

I'm going to order some today. I found it on Pinterest, too!

I love your counters and am soooo going to do this!!
